This is our special Friday evening session where Free Flight, Control Line and Radio flying all co-exist on the same field where we have been flying since 1946. The field is booked from 6pm but most people arrive around 7pm unless the weather is perfect.
Priority is given to free flight and control line, with slow quiet RC models allowed.
The usual field layout is shown below. See the full outdoor flying guidance on the Club Documents page on our website or click here.
FPV Pilots – use the pegboard to reserve your video frequency – see copy of pegboard here
See the Control Line flying rules on the club documents page or click here.
We have noticed a recent tendency for boys to be on the field playing football, despite the club having booked the whole field. No RC or CL activity is to take place if there are boys playing football near our activities. They must be spoken to and given the option of either clearing off as we have booked the field, or going up to the far North West end of the field behind the caretakers house where they will be well out of our way. We don’t want to have a massive set to with them, so the option of letting them continue at the far end seems a sensible compromise.
If you are not sure about suitable RC models, please ask. This is a tricky field for RC with tall magnetic trees all round the field that cause turbulence even in relatively light winds!! For a video of the field click here

Access to the airfield for the model flying is free, but this does not give you access to the Shuttleworth collection or gardens etc

This is the annual “open to all comers” national control line stunt competition for F2b aerobatics held in honour of the clubs founder Ray Malmstrom. Gates open at 9.30am and the competition starts around 10am
Please contact John Copsey for more information. jccathome@btinternet.com
Entry to the field as per map below
This event, now in it’s 10th year, attracts Control Line Precision Aerobatics competitors from all over the UK. The event is now an important component of the CLAPA* calendar of Control Line Stunt events (see www.clapa.org). It is also advertised in the BMFA News, on the BMFA website and elsewhere.
* CLAPA stands for Control Line Aerobatic Pilots Association.
Clubman Competition
Whilst the ‘Main Event’ will be a 3 round competition for F2B pilots, there will also be a ‘Clubman’ contest for aspiring CL Stunt pilots to get a taste of what it is all about. Any amount of help and encouragement will be available in a friendly, fun competition.
Clubman level is suitable for anyone who is capable of flying a CL model, and the competitor chooses what manoeuvres they wish to perform from the old Class ll schedule. The more stunts you can do, the greater your points score will be, so come on and start practicing.
There is no restriction on model type, power or undercarriage style. A combat model is perfectly acceptable although it may not get you the highest marks.
Note: If any club member wishes to get advice or information about flying in the Clubman event, please contact the Contest Director John Copsey.
