Flying Sites

Impington Village College

The club has been flying on the field behind the College since 1946 and it’s our main site for summer Friday evening meetings starting at 6pm where we fly an eclectic mix of free flight rubber power, catapult gliders, radio control and control line.  Note that we are only allowed to fly outdoors at Impington on Friday evenings.

Electric power only for Radio control, but i/c power is allowed for Control line models

We also fly Free Flight and RC models indoors here in the winter.  We meet in the Sports Hall every Saturday afternoon – see the events calendar for details.

Guidelines for flying at Impington are on the Club Documents page

Girton

This site is for Radio Control and Control line – both electric and internal combustion power is allowed here. In fact this is our only site where we can fly i/c Radio control as it’s electric only at Impington.

We fly on the 10 Acre field shown in the map below. After accessing through the locked gate (ask for the combination and ensure the gate is locked after entering or leaving), follow the yellow route to the flying field.  Do not access the field by car if the ground is not firm.  This usually means that in Dec, Jan and Feb, you need to park in the council office car park and walk to the field.

Please don’t drive on any marked pitches and in general only drive around the perimeter following the yellow line and park where it stops to set up a pits area.  If required by wind conditions, you can drive around the perimeter and park at any suitable point.

The field at Girton is an excellent flying site, but note the caveats below regarding other users of the field!

Activity on the 10 acre field that we fly on

Unfortunately we are unable to get a detailed programme of organised sports activities.  In general weekdays are best with very little activity on the field.  Sometimes there is football training on weekdays from 4pm.

Sunday mornings are usually free, but from lunchtime on Sundays there is a lot of organised sports, although summer evenings are usually free.

Saturdays are often busy with organised sports, but summer evenings are usually free.

Guidelines for flying at Girton are on the Club Documents page

Other flying sites

We have some special arrangements to fly at sites in Cottenham, Longstanton and Fulbourn.  These are not official club sites but have been arranged by private negotiations.  If you want details of these sites, please contact the club secretary – see the contact us page.
