3/1 – Indoor flying resumes on Saturday 4th Jan

By | January 4, 2025

Indoor flying starts again on Saturday 4th – this is a mixed session with RC from 1pm to 3pm and FF from 3pm to 5pm.

The safety officer wants to remind everyone of the guidelines for indoor RC flying which are linked on each calendar entry. The key safety points are –

• Keep a good lookout – Even when you are not flying, try to keep aware of what others are doing in case a model is heading towards you.
• Consider wearing glasses or safety glasses – Think about your personal risk appetite. Even a small Vapor prop can cause serious eye damage.
• Stand close to the walls leaving just enough space for people to pass behind you – This gives maximum space for flying. Warn pilots if you have to walk in front of them.
• Take special care when retrieving – If you have to cross the hall when others are flying, go round the edge. When getting a model from the middle, keep a good lookout.
• Helicopters and Quadcopters – Small helis and quads with exposed props should keep to one end and avoid getting near other people. Mini quads with enclosed props can fly in the whole hall. Please read the full guidelines for quad flying in the different 15 minute slots.

It has been suggested that we encourage members with non flying RC vehicles to bring these along to the last 30 minutes of the 4 hour RC only sessions. This would co-exist with the last 2 flying slots of “At your Peril” and “Slow Aerobatics” which would go on above. So, if you have cars, motorbikes, hovercraft or any crazy vehicles , bring them along. We will see how this goes before adding it formally to the sessions.
