5/6 – Guidance for Quadcopter and Drone flyers at IVC

By | June 5, 2023

The following information was sent to all club members on 5th June

Impington is a very rare club where we have a regular Friday meeting and fly a varied mix of Free Flight, Control Line, Fixed Wing Radio and Quads / Drones.  We also aim to have a very light touch on rules and are very happy to have so many keen flyers of all the different types.

There has been an increase in RC Fixed Wing and Quad flying which is great for the hobby, and we have now updated the guidance for Quads to ensure adequate separation as shown below.

  1. Quadcopters and drones – Pilots should follow the guidelines below –
    1. A separate pits area should be set up approx 10m to the right of the main fixed wing pits.
    2. Takeoffs and landings should be away from the fixed wing pilots
    3. When airborne, quads can be flown anywhere in the field but should stay well away from all people when at lower levels

The full guidance document for RC flying on Friday evenings is linked from every calendar event and is also in the main document section of the website or here Safety-Guidelines-for-RC-Flying-at-Impington-on-website.pdf (bmfa.uk)

Thanks for taking note of this and happy and safe flying for the future.
